I have learned that when I set reachable goals, that I can finally get there. The goals I set are for where I want to be in two months. I set a goal to finish reading the Bible six times this year. Without reading all day, I spend time early in the morning, just reading. Today I finished Job for 36 chapters. I can easily finish up the rest of this book tomorrow, or some other time today. I have found that if I am motivated to finish, I usually find a way. It is hard at times, but when you plant the Word, and pray, it will make a difference in your conduct around those who aren’t in the Word daily.
I have been hungry to read the Bible for myself, and this is not my own idea. My dentist said he had finished his Bible and I thought, “I haven’t counted how many times I have read my Bible. I did notice that I liked certain passages more. So I started my journey, and I began reading to finish. I did, and then I started over. This was an organized way to go. I choose the book, and finally I get to the last one and I read that one. Voila! The Bible is finished.
There are promises that you can learn and hang onto as you go through life. I find peace with God, and it helps me have peace with my family, and others. I don’t think every day is perfect, but my silent prayer is, “God change me.”
At times I have been fried, and tried, but I had my reading time that day, and I might decide to read some more. You know, life is short. The longest I know of someone living has been 110 years. Surely there are others who have gone to a higher number. No one wants to live without knowing where they are. We are given life, and we should take care of how we handle life. Anger is one thing that will ruin your day. Some emotions we need to lasso, and at times we may have to get angry with ourselves first. Why sleep through most of the day. Staying up late is a waste of sleep time, but sleeping all day is not healthy. I counted today how long I had slept, and I slept enough. I got up, read for a while, and I enjoyed the quiet. Every thing in the house that had life was still asleep. I made great progress with Job. I lack maybe 8 chapters to finish. I started today. You know, we do what we want, but there are other things that keep us moving.
Self, Satan, and Sin will try to keep us in trouble with each other, and with the law. We must walk in the Power of the Holy Spirit, and to do this, we need the Word in us, and a drink of the Word every day. God answers prayer, but are you ready to read the Word for yourself? Along the way, I have met people who read the Bible all the way through. This is how I started reading the whole Bible through. You know, the disciplines in life are yours to take hold of.
When I get dressed, after reading for a while, I start straightening things, Ed fixes us two eggs apiece, and we go through the busy day. My shield and protection is on because the Word is armor. I am glad someone told me about his desire to read the Bible, and finish. It made me think, “I should find a way to read the Bible through.”
I did read the Bible 2 times in college, and now I was on my way to read again, and again. My goal is higher this year. I made it 5 times last year, and this year I have raised the amount of times. It is harder to add another time, and I have to focus, and be goal oriented. That is not to say that this is work. I have to look ahead, and see how many times I can get the Bible read in the year. Raising the standard is adding another time. It doesn’t return empty. The Word always makes a difference.
Prayer is talking to God. I do this also. When I wake up, I get up if it is near time to rise. Today it was earlier, but I got up and left while the room was dark. It was dark outside, but I felt compelled. You know God in you is the Hope of Glory. God in you is calling you to read the Word, and stop long enough to get something from it. I see the Peace of Christ coming through, when I read. I expect the Word will change me.
