Things that Go, “Boo” in the Night…Mystery at the Church

I am not one to be mysterious, or to think of things that move in the night. The other day I was at the church. The chandeliers were off in the sanctuary as I played the piano. There may have been one light on, but I saw no need to waste electricity as I played. We have huge windows on each side room that let in enough light to see. I finished playing the piano, and decided it was time to read.

I moved over to a couch and art area on the side of the sanctuary. I sat down and realized after attempting to read that I needed more light now that it was getting later.

I moved to the back of the sanctuary where tables had been moved together because of the yard sale. All the wares that are going to be sold Saturday were on them. I moved to reach for the light switch, when suddenly I felt something in the darkness crawl off my back and it took a few moments. I felt the light claws. I stood frozen.

It jumped to the nearest table in front of me and onto the dishes which made the usual sound of dishes being knocked together. I turned the lights on and went on my way. We met others at the funeral home and had the service. Ed preached a short message, but it was comforting for the family.

We decided to go eat afterwards, and went back to the church to give someone a ride with us to the restaurant. My mind was elsewhere. I could not forget the experience several hours before while trying to reach the light switch. What was the creature that hopped onto the dishes? It was a tight place to be in, but something dropped off me onto the table. I finally told Ed and our friend about this as we prayed for the Wednesday night meeting. I don’t believe it was a ghost. I believe it might have been a varmint.

Isaac told me it might have been a lizard or a mouse. I felt it leave . How did it get there in the first place!! I had been sitting on the couch. This couch has pillows that are not moveable on the top. They are sewn on to the rest of the couch. Something hopped on my back. Something moved as I reached for the light switch. I didn’t turn on the light, because it was moving.I stood there in the darkness and the silence of the moment. I wasn’t afraid, nor did I scream or shout. I froze. I don’t know what it was…………..but I didn’t get bit. It did have claws.

It took a few minutes for me to get over this experience. I knew it was something because the dishes rattled when it hopped off me. It left. The comment that was made after I told my story was, “Ed, you need to exterminate the place after the yard sale is over. The boxes that were brought in may have had some kind of varmint in them. It is hard to get rid of bugs once they start.”.

I was late going to the church last night. Isaac and I went together. I had a headache all day long, and woke with it. My blood pressure was high and low, so I knew I needed to walk. I went to the grocery store and came directly home. I didn’t go to the church! Do you blame me? I had a headache all day long, and no, I didn’t forget about the mysterious thing that made the dishes move.

I’m ready to bring one of my cats down to the church to explore the corner and see what it can find! I’m glad this didn’t happen with the lights on. What ever it was, doesn’t like the light! I took Tylenol and lost my headache. It is still trying to come back today. I will take it easy, try to write more, and forget the mystery noise maker.

Isaac and I played checkers last night while others talked. I beat him, and found some new moves that I had not tried on anyone. I never give in to anyone when I play checkers. They have to beat me, or I win. Isaac was very skilled. I consented because I didn’t want to move tables in the back of the sanctuary! I needed something to get my mind off the mystery.

I love checkers because it is good for analyzing, and increases your potential to think. It is one game that my second graders would play when they finished their work. I also love Monopoly, and Chinese Checkers. Isaac loves Chess and has become very good with it. He gets young children to play with him, and teaches them how to be winners.

Our little first grader knows how to play Chess now. It is a good game that can be played all your life. It is educational and increases your brain function. Smile. I have played Chess with Isaac, but he is good with games. I can never beat him with Chess.

I have rattled on, and maybe you can decide if my story is significant. There was a funeral, there was something mysterious in the back of the sanctuary, and the dishes proved it was there, because they rattled!! Was it because we were going to a funeral that this happened?? I don’t know. I like to stay focused. I just couldn’t forget what happened.
